Volcano hiking

There are 8 volcanos higher than 9,000 ft. above sea level in Guatemala. They are:

  • Volcán de Agua
  • Volcán de Pacaya
  • Volcán de fuego
  • Volcán Acatenango
  • Volcán Tolimán
  • Volcán Atitlán
  • Volcán San Pedro
  • Volcán Tajumulco

Agua and Pacaya volcano are the two closest to Guatemala city and the most popular to be climbed. Pacaya volcano can be reached by car from Guatemala. It ´s 14 miles away from Guatemala city. After getting of the vehicule it takes a 45 minute walk to the top of it. Even though the volcano is active it can be reached securely.

Agua volcano is very popular also, however. It takes at least 5 hours to climb it. A common practice is to stay over at leat one night. You can see the Pacific ocean, Antigua Guatemala and Guatemala city from the top.        I want to tailor a trip to Guatemala volcanoes.
